Mamdani voters still know nothing about him the day after voting for him

Mamdani won, and his supporters still have no idea why they voted for him.
I went and asked them.

When you watch videos like this, it’s hard to feel much sympathy for New York City voters. If not knowing what “concept of a plan” Mamdani has to implement his disastrous policies is a prerequisite for supporting him, then these people are what you’d call a lost cause.
Cam Higby asked New Yorkers their thoughts on the election, and let’s just say it went exactly how you expected.
The first honorable mention goes to the woman at the Mamdani booth who couldn’t explain his agenda if her life depended on it. That alone shows how heavily the progressive vote relies on the most naive base of the electorate.
Then you have a bunch of Gen Z women claiming to be ecstatic over the win, but also cannot accurately convey why that is. How do we get to the point where voters are happy but don’t know why? To call that mass cognitive dissonance would be an understatement.
They don’t even know what they’re fighting for. They repeat vague talking points like, “Oh, he’s for immigrants,” or “He’ll make education better,” or “He’ll help with rent.” Not only can they not explain how any of that would be accomplished, but they don’t even seem to understand what those goals actually mean. Why is it inherently good to have an immigrant as mayor? That’s something they can never articulate. How, exactly, do you make education more equitable—and in what sense is it not equitable now? Again, they have no idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if they couldn’t even explain what’s wrong with the education system in the first place.
An honorable mention also goes to the last girl, who, of course, tried to push the false claim that Denmark and Sweden are socialist, when nothing could be further from the truth.
That being said, it’s pretty clear that if not for some of the most naive voters in the country, Mamdani would have lost. At this point, all we can really do is keep New Yorkers in our prayers.
