Jimmy Kimmel won an Emmy and used the opportunity to address how it feels to be on the frontlines of "defending democracy." In the olden days, men stormed the beaches of Normandy. Today, they have a team of writers brainstorming zingers against anyone who has an opposing viewpoint from the left. In the eyes of the media, those two things are equal.
Though the low-key hilarious thing about this is that Kimmel didn't win an Emmy for his late-night talk show. He won it for Outstanding Host for a Game Show for whatever reboot of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" they're on. Show of hands: how many of you knew he did this?
I'll give Kimmel 17% credit, because he rejected the silly premise. He was asked about how it feels to be a democracy defender, and it was framed by Variety as Jimmy Kimmel on what it means to be at the forefront of defending democracy. Even if the media and the Democrat Party (but I repeat myself) view comedians who repeat their opinions back to them as "defending democracy," Kimmel has at least a modicum of self-awareness.
Those are heavy thoughts, and I have a tendency to reject them.
However, he doesn't reject them all that much...
I don’t necessarily feel like I’m defending democracy, but I do feel like I’m giving this guy a little poke. He deserves it, I enjoy it, and I love that people enjoy it too.
Late-night "comedy" is a dying medium. The number of people who enjoy it is negligible.

You are "defending" "democracy" when you have the exact same opinion of Marxist progressives, and destroying it if you have any other opinion. A handful of district court judges in California, Massachusetts, and Connecticut are "defending Democracy." Meanwhile, the Supreme Court ruling their partisan decisions as unconstitutional is "destroying democracy." So much so that the only way to "defend democracy" is for Marxist progressives to destroy the institution of the Supreme Court. Also, the US Senate. Also, the First Amendment.
I wonder if the reporter who asked Kimmel is curious about how Joe Rogan and Theo Von feel about being at the forefront of democracy? After all, they talk to political figures and make jokes, too. What about the way Jimmy Fallon defended democracy by inviting Greg Gutfield on as a guest?
Maybe we could ask Stephen Colbert... whoops, too soon.
