"Superman" director makes obnoxious comments about politics and immigration because Heaven forbid we get a comic movie without it

The new "Superman" movie is set to hit theaters this weekend, and for a while, it seemed like we were going to get a comic movie without any of the filmmakers ruining it with ill-advised political comments. So, of course, the weekend before the release date, here comes James Gunn trying to make the movie into an analogy on immigration in America. Worst of all, he does this to a British press outlet.
Or, he at least sort of does it. His comments are being blown out of proportion somewhat, but people are talking about so let's do that. I'm mostly disappointed because the last time reporters tried to bait Gunn, he was smart enough not to take it.

The left has been using Superman as a defense of their illegal immigration agenda for decades, so Gunn saying the story is about "immigration" isn't shocking. You knew someone was going to. But these are the dickish comments people are responding to:
Gunn acknowledged that the movie’s themes may be interpreted differently across political groups, especially considering the current nationwide unrest around immigration. However, Gunn stands by the ideals embedded in “Superman,” and added that he doesn’t care if anyone takes offense.
“Yes, it plays differently, but it’s about human kindness and obviously there will be jerks out there who are just not kind and will take it as offensive just because it is about kindness. But screw them,” he said.
Here's the rub. Most of the "controversy" stemming from these movies comes from the way filmmakers and actors answer reporters' questions on all-day press junkets, and then the Internet does internet things. The reporters want everything to be validated by their political worldview. Some of us on the right get way too emotional and get caught up in our feelings about it, and can sometimes confuse complaining about movies with being a substitute for a personality.
Did what Gunn say sound douchey (as relayed by a print journalist)? Sure. You know who didn't sound douchey? David Corenswet, the actor playing Superman.

The other thing people are reacting to is Gunn saying, "Yes, it's about politics." The person who wrote the Variety tweet intentionally chose those four words because they knew how people would react to them. But here's the full quote:
“Yes, it’s about politics. But on another level it’s about morality. Do you never kill no matter what — which is what Superman believes — or do you have some balance, as Lois believes? It’s really about their relationship and the way different opinions on basic moral beliefs can tear two people apart.”
The full quote suggests a more complex narrative. More complex than the one the journalismers involved implied because they wanted the outrage clicks, which of course people are always more than happy to give them.
Could the movie be one giant f*ck you to people who support Donald Trump's common sense illegal immigrations reforms? Sure. It's Hollywood. If that turns out to be the case, I'll admit I was wrong.
But mayhaps people need to consider going outside to touch grass before getting too in their feelings because of something someone said to a print reporter as interpreted by another print reporter.
