Mamdani grocery official admits govt-run stores would put local grocers out of business, so they'll pay them for it

One of the many, many problems with opening a city-run grocery store with significantly lower prices than the market rate is that it hurts the small businesses already struggling to make ends meet. So, what is the solution to that? Well, the city is exploring programs and grants as a way to possibly offset the burden of the government ruining the market.\
Lead official for Mayor Mamdani's NYC Groceries tells me city may give grants to local grocers fearing competition from city-run stores

In other words, not only does the government plan to use tax dollars to artificially open a grocery store with lower rates than private ones, but it might just fork over the funds to these stores by stealing their business. Slowly but surely, the communist government will take over the marketplace, and while it may sound good at first, this will ruin everything.
According to Spectrum News:
Waverly Neer, the lead official for NYC Groceries at EDC, said officials are considering grant money for existing grocers concerned about the competition.
"We're, as an agency, looking at a number of different complementary policies and programs, grants, incentives that can come alongside these grocery stores to support other local independent businesses in the neighborhoods," Neer told NY1.
The government not only plans to spend $30 million to build the store, but they may also pay the people complaining that they destroyed the marketplace. I know I don't have to tell you why this is a terrible idea, but clearly, the communists will do everything in their power to destroy the local economy, and we can only hope the people realize that before it is too late.
Here is Vickie Paladino to break down what this really is about:
This is just mind boggling.
They’re breaking the market with subsidized groceries, and in order to keep the local grocery stores from collapsing they’re going to distribute ‘grants’ to keep them afloat.
This of course keeps the stores completely dependent on government handouts… https://t.co/A9hDpHAKBu

This of course keeps the stores completely dependent on government handouts to remain open also. Handouts which can be revoked, of course, should they step out of line in some way.
It’s all just a big scheme for control over everything.
To claim "It’s all just a big scheme for control over everything" might be putting it lightly.
Look, if these communists could open up a grocery store in the private sector and make a profit off of it, they would have done that by now. The problem is these people are so arrogant and naive that the only way they can do that is by taking the hard-earned tax dollars of the “working class” and forcing it on the market, while pretending they are all in it to help the little guy. It truly is infuriating how bad this could end up if it comes to fruition.
