We announced that we are suing CNN, Jubilee, and James Talarico. Today's show addresses the critics of the lawsuit.
According to Evan James, βBro thinks he invented debate.β However, this could not be further from the truth.
βIt is that framework, with that type of discussion, with the name βChange My Mind,β and especially that branding,β Crowder said. βI don't think I invented debate at all. I think those types of conversations, which are easy to take for granted, didn't exist before Change My Mind, and that has spun a whole bunch of copycats. It is flattery, but not when you try to use it for propaganda to try and flip a state in Texas, and you are a giant corporation who should know better.β
Libertarian journalist Brad Polumbo is another critic, claiming, βIt's really strange to me that you can legally claim ownership over the concept of sitting down with someone and challenging them to 'change your mind.ββ
βNo one here is saying we invited debate, but [it is] sitting down in that framework, in that context, with that invitation, and that branding,β Crowder said.
Gerald A added, βGo sit down and call it βearn my vote,β or whatever else you want to call it, but don't use the branding and equity we have built into that brand.β
According to Justin Baragona, βSteven Crowder says he's suing CNN, Jubilee and James Talarico for using the phrase 'Change My Mind' during last night's town hall.β This is also incorrect.
βWe have never sued over using the phrase. That is not what we are doing,β Crowder said.
Sean Fitzgerald also claimed, βDidn't Steven say he wanted people to do 'Change My Mind' style content?β
βMaybe it is different because CNN is a major company and they sue you for ripping their trademark, and they have in the past,β Crowder said. βIt was very clear this is to encourage conversation amongst students that is not taking place,β adding that βthe problem is when you have people profiting off of, or pushing a political agenda, especially as it involves a political candidate that is antithetical to the owner of the trademark.β
