Yesterday, while most of America was bored watching the AFC Championship game and mortified that the Patriots were going to the Super Bowl again, a commercial caught people's attention. A fat man complaining about body shaming. It's not his fault that he can't lose weight. It's YOUR fault for making him feel bad when you talk about exercising.
It's every bad cliche you've heard from the body "positivity" crowd, except it's a dude instead of a fat woman who claims she's beautiful just the way she is. And that if you aren't there for her worst, you don't deserve her at her best. Apropos of nothing, broads who say that never have a best, but I know that you know that I know that you know.
The shaming of bodyshamers ends with the tag line "There are lots of opinions about weight. It takes strength to focus on 'health'."
The ad is run by Eli Lilly. A medicine company. Who is Lilly, you ask?
Eli Lilly's weight-loss portfolio is anchored by Zepbound (tirzepatide), a weekly injection that helps patients lose approximately 20% of their body weight by targeting the GIP and GLP-1 hormones.
Yes, a Big Pharma company that is, quote, "aggressively expanding its portfolio" to be a "major player in the obesity market" is running ads telling people it's not their fault they are morbidly obese and shaming the body "shamers."
No, what takes "strength" is changing your diet and lifestyle while maintaining a training schedule. Which, as it turns out, builds strength as well.
Frank The Tank, who has been an inspiration to people (me included) on his weightloss journey by doing things the RIGHT way, puts it best:
This sounds like the bullshit I would tell myself when I weighed 530+lbs
WTF are we doing here https://t.co/BuJjyOLYSZ

It's a gross ad that is every bad stereotype of how pharmaceutical companies push drugs on the American people, made worse by the fact that I'm not even sure if that's an actual fat dude. It looks like AI. They may not have even found an actual fat person to clown themselves like this.
If quick fixes are right for you, it's your journey. You mayhaps want to research how many people regained all the weight after getting their stomach stapled.
I'd rather people looked to cats like Frank the Tank, or Ethan Suplee, or Ethan Benard before jabbing themselves with needles.
Over 4,000 steps before church this morning 😁💪🏻

And I say this as someone who has struggled with weight for most of his life. Not in a mobidly obese way, but in a embarassed to be seen with his shirt off way. Eat less and move more. Excercise. Training. It takes discipline.
It's hard to have discipline all the time. But if you use that as your excuse for a quick fix or a miracle drug, don't be shocked when you find all the weight you lost. Then move on to the next gimmick.
