No parent should have to bury their own child, especially when that death could and should have been prevented. It is particularly painful when a life is lost at the hands of an illegal immigrant, a death that should never have happened in the first place. Lawmakers should be discussing this matter with the utmost respect, as losing a child is the hardest thing a parent can endure. However, because Kayla Hamilton’s death does the left no favors, Jasmine Crockett has once again proven there is no low too low for her to stoop.

Crockett sparked controversy during a House debate when she called Kayla Hamilton, a 20-year-old woman killed in 2022 by an undocumented migrant and MS-13 gang member, a “random dead person.” The comment has drawn backlash from Hamilton’s mother, Tammy Nobles.

In response to Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and recent remarks she made while debating the Kayla Hamilton Act, Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler is firing back.

The Kayla Hamilton Act would direct the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to take extra factors into account when deciding where to place unaccompanied alien children in its care.

"For someone who sits in Congress and at any level of elected office, who feels so dismissive of her life, or any other crime victims life, we have so many people across this country daily who lose their lives to act of violence, to be so dismissive of that act is just reprehensible," Gahler said.

Kayla Hamilton was raped and murdered in 2022 in Aberdeen, Maryland. Walter Javier Martinez, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 70 years in prison. He was from El Salvador and entered the U.S. illegally, just months before Hamilton's murder. Along with having a criminal record, he was also a member of the MS-13 gang. He was in the U.S. with the unaccompanied alien child status, which is reserved for minors with no lawful immigration status and no parent or legal guardian in the United States to provide care and physical custody.

This was not some “random dead person.” This was an innocent American—a daughter, a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. And that life was unjustly taken far too soon, all because federal immigration enforcement has repeatedly failed. Her killer should never have been in the country in the first place, yet because the left rejects the idea of illegal immigration—even though dangerous people walk among us—this young woman was taken from the world far too early. Rather than fully condemning this and taking steps to ensure it never happens again, Crockett has chosen to avoid the issue because it is politically inconvenient for her, which is nothing short of deranged.

Tragedies like this will continue to occur as long as those in charge maintain that no human is illegal. They will keep happening if people like Crockett do not start condemning such acts of evil as they rightfully should. While the current administration does recognize that some individuals are in the country illegally, it remains concerning that far too many elected officials refuse to acknowledge this reality.

Some humans are illegal, and the sooner the left acknowledges that, the safer Americans will be.
