I think a baseline support of law enforcement is a good thing. But it's not unconditional. I'll "Back the Blue" until the point where it is immoral or unethical to do so, and I aim a healthy amount of skepticism at the institution, as well--because it is an armed wing of the government.

So, when the FBI abuses the FISA warrant system or baselessly executes raids for political purposes, I think it should go. And when an officer is found to have been derelict or overstepped or abused his or her authority, I want him or her fired or locked up. And when an officer working for Child Protective Services tells a young girl to go whore herself out so she can afford to eat, I want that officer tossed into a cell for the remainder of his or her natural life.

Well, according to Fox Houston, an officer with CPS in Harris County, Texas, told a 14-year-old girl just that while she was staying in a hotel awaiting placement into a home.

So, if you watched the video, and you should before you continue with this post, I want to say a few things. First, I don't care what this child did to wind up in CPS care. I don't care why her mother thought handing her over to the state was the best course of action. None of this matters. All that matters is that this child was entrusted to the state, and an officer of the state who was charged with the child's safety, who that teenage girl should have been able to trust, told her to go debase herself, to sell her body, to discard any sense of self-worth, self-respect, or self-esteem, all for the purpose of putting a few dollars in her pocket for a bite to eat.

Daily Mail reports that the CPS officer was fired and "their identity has not been made public." I don't think this is nearly enough. The name should be public. The officer should be charged with a litany of crimes associated with enticing a child, child endangerment, promoting prostitution, pandering--everything! Every law that can possibly be applied to this situation, however slightly, should be charged. This is unacceptable!

Respect for authority can only be fostered in a system where authority is held to account for untoward behavior and breaches of trust. This CPS worker needs to be thrown behind bars, or no CPS official can ever be trusted.
