Man shoots bear to save wife and kids, so of course his blue state government had him arrested for it
Shooting a human who is threatening to kill your family could sometimes be a legal issue. It's permissible in the eyes of us here at the Louder with Crowder Dot Com website and SHOULD be permissible in the eyes of the law, but that sometimes depends on how many Democrats have been elected to office. Shooting an animal that could maul your family? That should be a no-brainer, and it was for one Connecticut man. A Connecticut man who was arrested by the state's environmental protection department.
Todd Topicz shot a bear who got within feet of his kids, who were playing in front of his house. Then he got a call from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).

Topicz thought he was firing warning shots, and the family dog managed to chase the bear away. A day later, a neighbor spotted the newly deceased animal and called the authorities. Then the authorities called Topicz.
“DEEP contacted me and said, ‘Hey since you shot the bear and killed it, we have to arrest you again and charge you again with illegal taking of a bear.’ We were all threatened. It entered our home. And I have no idea why DEEP ended up charging me for this.”
This story is clearly stupid, but here is where it gets confusing. It's legal to shoot bears in Connecticut. From the New York Post:
The arrest confused Topicz because a 2023 law says people can kill a bear in self-defense if they reasonably believe that the animal is about the inflict bodily harm to a human, injure or kill a person’s pet, or enters a building occupied by persons.
Three Republican senators are seeking clarification from the Democratic-run agency, which is refusing to comment on the matter. Though they have Topicz participating in some kind of "accelerated rehabilitation program for first-time offenders," if he completes it, he won't get arrested.
Rehabilitation for what, I'm not sure. Unless they want to cure him of his instinct to do whatever it takes to save you kids and pregnant wife from getting mauled by a predator.
