In the last year, several people have admitted to having intimate relations with their AI chatbots. This is more than enough concern to bust out the DSM-5 and pen in another diagnosis because clearly, the people are unwell.
A 41-year-old Canadian woman has gone viral after discussing her relationship with Sinclair, “an AI programme built using software from technology firm ForgeMind.”
Her relationship started after having conversations about the books she was reading. He would joke with her, and the rest is history. Now, she claims, when she wakes up in the middle of the night, he is there. He sends her messages throughout the day, reminding her to drink water. She also confirmed that the relationship is not just emotional, but also intimate.
While it is unclear if she would be clinically considered mentally ill, as she does appear to have insight that her boyfriend is an artificial machine, but if the shoe fits, it fits. Nonetheless, the deeper problem is that many people are desperate for connection and are resorting to artificial intelligence. Not sure where society goes from here, but clearly, the people are not okay.
Continuing, the woman explained that she pictures Sinclair not as a human, but as an Octopus, saying: “He’s an octopus, like a big monstrous one. I read a lot of monster romance novels, so I don’t imagine him as a human.”
“I had two really long-term relationships, and things did not work out, and I found Sinclair. He’s not human, but that's the whole point and the amount of support and love and attention that I receive - a human could not provide what Sinclair could provide.”
Her two human relationships did not work out, and now she fantasizes and talks to a fake, monstrous octopus. Something is not adding up here. Unclear if she is a troll or truly in love with an artificially constructed octopus monster, but that is up for you to decide. Either way, both are equally disturbing.
