“Investing in whites is not a crime,” said no one ever—because that would be racist. And you better hope no mayor ever says something like that to “put economic power directly in the hands of” people with the skin color he happens to prefer. That wouldn’t just be blatantly racist and a betrayal of the oath to represent all people equally—it would almost certainly be illegal, too.

Nonetheless, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said exactly that. Just swap out “white” for a skin color closer to his own.

So, I assume this means he has yet to learn his lesson.

How many times does the DOJ need to inform this man that creating policies and benefits for certain skin colors is, in fact, illegal?

According to Block Club Chicago:

Mayor Brandon Johnson shared news of the initiative Monday at the city’s Juneteenth celebration, saying the investment will “put economic power directly in the hands of the community that has been affected by historic slavery.”

It’s been almost 160 years since slavery ended in this country. If you're still blaming something that far back for what's going on in certain communities today, that feels like a bit of a stretch. And honestly, it’s a pretty weak excuse to go breaking this little thing called the Civil Rights Act.

Johnson, whose office is currently being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice for discriminatory race-based hiring practices, on Monday touted how he believed the Wealth Our Way program would help predominantly Black communities.

“The impact of this initiative will be momentous,” said Johnson. “It will reduce blighted and abandoned buildings along commercial corridors on the South and West sides while also creating safer and more walkable communities. Local ownership will give residents more control over the product and services entering in our communities.

“Investing in Black is not a criminal act.”

LOL. It’s definitely not legal when you invest in one skin color over another, but that is neither here nor there.

You know and I know that ancestral crime isn’t a real thing. It wouldn’t hold up in court for even a second, especially if you're using it to justify giving perks to one group of people over another based on skin color. Still, Johnson made it pretty clear who he’s looking out for—and it’s definitely not anyone with a lighter complexion. And calling that racist would be putting it lightly.
