Gavin Newsom attempts to take credit for investigating fraud after claiming Nick Shirley was a pervert for exposing it

NEW: California Governor Gavin Newsom takes credit for "leading the charge" against fraud after spending weeks attacking @nickshirleyy for exposing fraud.
"California is again leading the charge against large-scale identity theft and hospice fraud."

The problem with the massive alleged hospice fraud going on in California is not only that officials are largely responsible for allowing it to happen, but that they mocked those demanding answers. When Nick Shirley released the full video of the large-scale fraud scheme going on in the state, Gavin Newsom did not demand answers. Instead, he chose to slander Shirley as if he were the problem. What makes this even worse is that now that something has been partly done to some of these fraudsters, Newsom is taking all the credit, as if he could not even be bothered to pretend to care for weeks.
Five people were arrested on Wednesday for their part in an alleged hospice fraud ring.
According to CBS:
The California Department of Justice and several state agencies arrested five people Wednesday in a crackdown on an alleged hospice fraud ring, and officials said more arrests will come. Several suspects received "notices to appear" in court and will face arrest warrants if they don't show. In total, the state filed charges against 21 suspects.
I guess this is a start, but when will the officials who turned a blind eye for so long be held accountable? We can almost be certain this is largely because the people who needed to do their due diligence to prevent this abuse could not be bothered to do just that. Someone ought to be held accountable, but don't expect anything more than officials taking credit while they pretend to care about fraudsters stealing from the American taxpayer.
State Attorney General Rob Bonta said the scheme defrauded California of $267 million through bogus charges to Medi-Cal, the state-administered Medicaid program. Americans pay into Medicare through taxes and premiums, so defrauding it would be essentially stealing from all American taxpayers.
Bonta said the defendants collected money without providing a single legitimate hospice service. The law enforcement effort, called Operation Skip Trace, targeted ten locations in Southern California.
We can almost be certain that the problem is far worse than officials are taking credit for. However, the fact that fraudsters were able to steal hundreds of millions of dollars without providing a single hospice service tells you how severe the problem is. The fact that people could make a claim and the state handed over cash by taking their word for it proves how unserious these people are and how unfit the bureaucracy is to be running the state.
According to the California Department of Justice, individuals purchased identifying information for non-California residents from the dark web and used them to enroll in Medi-Cal. Then, straw owners bought 14 hospice companies and billers began billing the government for hospice care for the stolen identities.
What makes this worse is that Newsom has decided to take credit for this, even though he openly mocked Shirley for doing the state’s job.

You tried to paint me as a pervert for exposing fraud, and as a result radical leftists started trying to dox me and send death threats, wanting to kill me.
Now you are taking credit for “leading the charge” on the fraud. Are you serious?
You are the fraud. https://t.co/6pkaJcNi6Y

His rhetoric has now changed.
California is again leading the charge against large-scale identity theft and hospice fraud.
Today, we're taking decisive action against 14 providers who tried using stolen identities to bill Medi-Cal for nonexistent hospice services.

To call this pathetic would be an understatement. Not only did the governor turn a blind eye to what was going on — not only did he mock those demanding answers — but he would now like the public to give him the credit he does not deserve — all. At the same time, he allowed hundreds of millions to be stolen from the American taxpayer. There is nothing more infuriating than that.
