The only thing sillier than the culture war being waged around Caitlin Clark is the way the WNBA is run as a "business." But it's close. When you're at the point where you're comparing Clark playing a game with a ball the lynching of a black boy that launched the civil rights movement... honestly, it's so stupid, I can't even think of an analogy about how stupid it is. The AWFL "sports' writer has apologized, though not really, and has doubled down on implying Clark is raaaaaaacist.

We touched on this yesterday, covering Sophie Cunningham's common-sense belief that boys pretending to be girls should not be allowed to compete against girls. USA Today reporter Nancy Armour wanted Caitlyn Clark to go see the Emmett Till exhibit to see what happens when white women can't calm down about something, comparing it to her drawing technical fouls against queer and/or black women in a basketball game.

Oh, and you may be surprised to know this is Nancy Armour:

Well, she's kinda sorry, but not really. While her comparison was "inartful," her point comparing Caitlyn Clark playing basketball to lynching black kids still stands about the perceived threats to White Women being weaponized against African Americans. It's reminiscent of people questioning if Jake Paul was racist for not letting his boxing opponent, who happened to be black, punch him in the face more.

This is where I get confused. Because, personally, I've decided not to engage in the Caitlin Clark culture wars. There are people who get emotional about it and others who think hating the WNBA is a substitute for a personality. My view is the WNBA isn't worth even having an opinion on because it's not a real business. It's not about selling tickets, growing a fanbase, or bringing awareness to the sport. It is about virtue signalling in whatever direction, and not much more.

I like that my nieces have their own "Michael Jordan" to look up to, even if Caitlin Clark doesn't always answer reporters' questions the way I would like her to. But honestly, at this point she should just put a team together with Sophie and Sabrina Ionescu and get that bag from Ice Cube's Big3 league.

However, if I understand AWFL Nancy Armour's point, she is afraid that if Caitlin Clark continues to act like this:

As of this writing, no one in or from the WNBA has been asked to comment on Nancy Armour's AWFL analogy. Surprisingly, they also haven't been asked to comment about Sophie Cunningham's defending girls' sports either. We'll see what the weekend brings.
