California likes to pretend it's all in to defend democracy, but the actions of state lawmakers prove otherwise. So, when Gov. Newsom signed the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” into law, he proved to the public that they place zero importance on this little thing called the “First Amendment." This is why Nick Shirley did what needed to be done and will be suing the state for its blatant violation of the First Amendment.
I'm suing California...
California has decided to push for less transparency and create laws that penalize citizens and journalists for looking into potential fraud inside "immigration support services providers." A written demand is all it takes to stop the publishing of a… pic.twitter.com/nFnfDUff0h

According to the New York Post:
“Nick Shirley is an American patriot,” Gene Hamilton, president of America First Legal, which is suing California on Shirley’s behalf. “He has been exposing fraud that too many people have tolerated or facilitated for decades.”
“California was so threatened by that work that the Attorney General’s own wife introduced a bill to silence Mr. Shirley, in violation of the First Amendment,” Hamilton added. “This will not stand.”
While I cannot confirm the reason the state wants to criminalize journalism is that it wishes to shield its blatant incompetence that has resulted in millions and millions in fraud, if the shoe fits, it fits.
Here is the kind of nonsense the state has allowed to go on:
🚨 Here is the full 40 minutes of my crew and I exposing California fraud, Minnesota was big but California is even bigger... We uncovered over $170,000,000 in fraud as these fraudsters live in luxury with no consequences. Like it and share it, the fraud must STOP.

It cannot get any worse than that.
The law specifically restricts people and businesses from knowingly publicly posting the “personal information” of people involved in “designated immigration support services.” It also allows those people to seek civil relief against individuals who violate that rule.
Time and again, the state has proven exactly who they intend to protect, and it certainly is not you, the American people, or your hard-earned tax dollars. It should be illegal to be this incompetent. What a national embarrassment the state is.
