This is what happens when you give commies power.
Over the past few weeks, Los Angeles residents have been complaining about abnormally high energy bills. This might be the worst one yet.
This homeowner thought $3,000 was bad. That was nothing compared to her recent $24,000 bill.
Remember when you guys thought I was trolling with this LADWP bill? Some communists even tried to community note my post. Well… https://t.co/H6b6xwLPoY

How is this possible? What is going on? She lives in a "modestly" sized home, 1,600 SF. She has no pool. Even $3,000 is a scandal. LADWP cannot be serious, can they? What does a $24,000 LADWP bill even mean?!
According to KTLA:
There’s outrage and growing calls for an investigation after some Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers reported their utility bills tripling in recent months — spiking by hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.
Some residents are investigating themselves, reading the fine print, in order to get some kind of explanation for the eye-popping numbers.
One Encino resident, Micah Reed, showed KTLA’s Annie Rose Ramos his bill — $3,322 for his house.
This is supposedly the result of a “record-breaking heatwave,” even though the homeowner kept the thermostat at 74.
If you think this is a one-off, you are factually incorrect.
More of this nonsense:
There’s outrage and growing calls for an investigation after some Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers reported their utility bills tripling in recent months — spiking by hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass released a statement Tuesday announcing plans for some major changes to bring temporary relief for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers affected.

She said she hardly ever even uses the AC. And of course, the bureaucracy tried to victim-blame and claim it was her fault, despite this being a recurring issue. I am no HVAC technician, but I can confidently conclude thermostats don't cause this.
And some more:
The iconic Canter's Deli in Los Angeles that’s been operating for nearly 100 years could potentially close because electricity rates keep skyrocketingTheir monthly electric bill soared to over $35,000, up nearly $10,000 from just 4 months agoThe location is already cutting back on air conditioning use and using equipment to save but it’s not enoughUnfortunately lots of people in LA have been getting deported by electric bills. From what I’ve found it’s because of LADWP ‘cost adjustments’LADWP commercial structure:Base energy charges are relatively low and remain mostly unchanged, but large pass-through adjustment factors are added like- Energy Cost Adjustment/ECA- Incremental Reliability Cost Adjustment/IRCA- Variable Energy Adjustment/VEA- Renewable-related factors and moreThese are what’s driven the bulk of recent price increasesSo its lot even power…. It’s all the junk and garbage fees added on top of the power usageIt’s straight theft

While I am no commercial energy expert, this seems extremely high.
The people need answers. And since it is an election cycle, useless Mayor Karen Bass is pretending to care.
Bass is going further, saying LADWP customers can pay what they are able to afford right now. She also asked the LADWP board to pause utility shutoffs through the end of the year for customers facing higher bills following record heat. If approved, no customer's electricity or water service would be shut off for the remainder of the year.
While it is great that these people won't have their power shut off through the end of the year, it still provides little information on what is going on and how LADWP is getting away with this. I am finding it hard to believe this is a result of a "record heat wave," but you are free to draw your own conclusions.
