Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham takes her role as Caitlyn Clark's enforcer very seriously. Not only does she protect her on the court, but she is also now taking culture war heat off the court. However, Clark's culture war heat stems from her simply being dominant as a cisgender white woman in a league where two out of three of those things are frowned upon. Cunningham has stepped on the third rail of woke sports: declaring boys shouldn't compete against girls, even if those boys pretend they're girls.

It's going to be a fun day on the internets, thanks to a surprisingly decent profile on ESPN. Near the bottom half of it, after some psychobabble from a professor who is an expert in the racial dynamics of enforcing and pointing, there was this paragraph:

You say she's a "MAGA Barbie," as some corners of the internet have taken to calling her? Projection, she says, because of what she looks like and where she's from. She'll weigh in on how to "protect women's sports," she says, because she's in that world and feels qualified to speak to that world. "I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she says. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

She then went on to say she is "very much in the middle" and "disagrees with things on both sides." That usually means she is mostly on the right and voted for Trump, but thinks very-online MAGAsexual fanbois are annoying. Plus, she still needs to coexist in the entertainment world, which will be interesting to see her try and do now that this will be the lead question in every post-game presser. Will Caitlyn Clark be her enforcer? We shall see.

We'll also see if she's denounced by her players' union, which exists to prevent the WNBA from making any new fans at any time for any reason.

The WNBA always makes for a fun culture war battlefield. Some people think that hating the WNBA is a substitute for a personality. Others will ignore reality and act as if it's as important as the NBA. Though of that latter group, apparently a lot of them just got laid off from ESPN.

I nothing the WNBA, outside of sending the occasional Caitlyn Clark clip to my nieces who are starting to learn, grow, develop, and connect with their peers through sports. You know, just like Lia Thomas had the opportunity to do when he was Will Thomas.

But Sophie is funny, a great social media follow, and smokin' hot. She needs to be protected at all costs.

At least until she is forced to bend the knee and apologize for her comments. I'll join everyone in having the exact opposite opinion than I do now.
