Barstool President Nails #BlackOutTuesday Virtue Signalers: ‘You’re doing nothing!’
I was hoping to hear from the president today. No, not that president. I'd say I'm disappointed in him, but it's not like I voted for him in the first place. Barstool President Dave Portnoy is a different story. There aren't enough voices in the media who aren't in deep with one of the two tribes. Even though, granted, in media most are in deep with only one tribe, the tribe that's doing most of the virtue-signaling about #BlackOutTuesday. I'm sure you've seen all the black bars on Instagram and Twitter symbolizing ... I don't know, something. El Presidente isn't a big fan, but he has an important reason why.
Nothing but respect for MY El Presidente, but I disagree on one point. It's not a noble cause. Not the day after elderly couples are being beaten by rioters and looters. Not the day after cops were either shot or run over with cars in three different states. Not when a woman of color is having an emotional breakdown on Instagram because looters and rioters killed her sister. Had everyone done #BlackOutTuesday a week ago when people still cared about what happened to George Floyd, or in six months like Portnoy recommended, that's a different story. Doing it now is meaningless virtue-signaling. Doing it after a week of watching the violence and deciding to signal you're on the side of people causing it is shameful.
But yeah, shutting down the information when most people are getting it from Instagram or (unfortunately) Twitter makes no sense at all. The videos of cops and protesters hugging it out, that wasn't on CNN or Fox News. Other clips, both positive and negative, social media is where they are coming from. Putting up a black box instead may make you feel good about yourself, but to me it's a waste of platform. Case in point:
Also, El Presidente keeping Barstool up so that people can have a break when they want it ... A-Freaking-Men to that. Everyone could stand to get off of Twitter, stop frantically looking for every riot video you can watch, and chill out for a bit. It's not healthy to not only be exposed to this stuff 24/7, but actively expose yourself to it. Like I've said, everyone's hot takes and clapbacks will still be there for you to catch up on. The revolution will go on even if you take five minutes to look at the latest smoke show photo or watch AEW wrestling clips.
Everyone can stand to dial it down a notch.
Also, side note: If I ever accidentally write "Mike Portnoy," it's because I was thinking the drummer from Dream Theater and my team of proofreaders didn't catch it.
