Woke reporter attempts to get tennis stars to bash America, fails both times

Amanda Anisimova was asked if what’s been happening in the U.S. over the last year complicates her feelings of playing under the American flag
“I’ve been asking a lot of the American players how it feels to play under the American flag right now. I’m curious how you feel..”… pic.twitter.com/hFMYBT05SE

A reporter tried to corner Tennis Star Amanda Anisimova into picking a stance on politics. The problem with this is that sports are not the place to be political. In fact, it’s often an escape from these things. This is why it was bizarre and out of place for a reporter to get Anisimova to bash America and the status quo, despite that having nothing to do with her job. Unfortunately for the reporter, she didn't take the bait.
According to Fox News:
American tennis star Amanda Anisimova dismissed a tennis reporter’s question about how it felt to play in the U.S. with "everything that’s been happening."
Anisimova was among the American players who received a similar question at the Australian Open this week. First, she was asked how it felt to "play under the American flag right now."
"I was born in America. So, I’m always proud to represent my country," the New Jersey native said. "A lot of us are doing really well, and it’s great to see a lot of great athletes on the women’s side and men’s side. I feel like we’re all doing a great job representing ourselves."
What a ridiculous question. Did he really think she was going to bash the country she’s playing for? That would not be a good look. And is there another country in which she should be playing for? Would he have preferred China or Iran? You know, places actively engaged in massive human rights violations. Don't think he's calling out those countries. Why do you think that is?
The reporter later tried to clarify the question, asking "in the context of the last year of everything that’s been happening in the U.S., does that complicate that feeling at all?"
"I don’t think that’s relevant," she fired back.
Not only was the question irrelevant and illogical, but it was also inappropriate. Not every person needs to take a public stance on politics, especially when it has nothing to do with their job.
And the worst part? She wasn't the only player he tried to corner.
Taylor Fritz was also asked a similar question, hoping to get him to bash Trump. And once again, unfortunately for the reporter, Fritz did not fall for it.
A liberal reporter at the Australian Open keeps baiting American tennis players to bash Trump, conservatives, & ICE…
Taylor Fritz was visibly irritated with the questioning saying, “Whatever I say will be put into a headline & taken out of context”

He is correct. No matter what he says, he’s going to piss off a lot of people. He could condemn the question, but that would piss off the right. He could condone the question, but that would piss off the left. There is no winning answer here except for what he said. And the only pathetic person was this hack of a journalist, stupidly trying to make tennis about politics.
Some things are better left unsaid, and in my opinion, both players handled this perfectly. What do you think?
