Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Doesn't Understand Grocery Store Bag Options
Maybe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez uses self-checkout exclusively. All the self-checkouts I've used only have plastic bags, not paper. That being said, I usually bring my own tote, which is always an option. Yes, I reuse my bags. Let the record show even conservatives who voted for Donald Trump recycle and reuse. Wish I could say the same for Green Princess Ocasio-Cortez, who just takes the plastic bags and tosses them.

Let's stop pretending this woman is anything other than a silly-heart. Which is a polite way of saying she has less sense than a lobotomized dog.
Now, if you go through a traditional grocery store line, one where you place your items on a conveyor belt and a helpful attendant swipes the barcodes across a scanner, you're often asked if you want "Paper or plastic?" In which case you can say "paper" because contrary to what some leftist twits think, paper is a crop. Trees are a renewable resource.
Either Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is going to a grocery store which only carries plastic, or she's never seen the process of grocery store bag courtesy. Further, one needn't toss 10 perfectly reusable plastic bags. You can reuse them when you return to the grocery story to restock your chia seeds. You can also reuse the plastic bags for other purposes. Like under your bathroom or kitchen sink as trash bags. You may also give them to people with dogs, who need to grab and go with their doggy's doody. Plastic bag stashes also come in handy when going to a social event and you're expected to bring something to share.
Alexandria shouldn't be mad about tossing 10 plastic bags, she should repurpose those 10 plastic bags as many people do. Many people who are not demanding people give up their air travel lest the planet vaporize in 10-12 years due to climate change. If AOC is going to continue calling herself "the boss" on climate change, perhaps she should brush up on common Planetary Care (TM) routines. Like recycling.
