A recording of Vice President JD Vance has exposed him as someone who wants to put American interests first. He did nothing wrong. Today’s show breaks it down.

Vance first said the United States should have a foreign policy that primarily serves the interests of the American people and prioritizes relationships that serve them. However, people have taken the clip out of context.

According to the Times of Israel:

Vance argued that “rooting this relationship, like all relationships, in America’s interest is the way to actually have a rational conversation here.”

“[We have] a lot of important relationships, a lot of important partnerships in NATO, but that doesn’t mean we’re gonna completely make our European foreign policy subservient to NATO, in the same way that we cannot let our Middle Eastern foreign policy be subservient to the State of Israel,” Vance said.

“We’re gonna work with people when we work with them, we’re gonna disagree when we disagree. And we’re gonna pursue America’s interests. That’s the only way to have a rational foreign policy.”

Some people claim this means he believes we are subservient to Israel. The other side claims this means he hates the Jews.

“Neither one of them is even remotely true and, unfortunately, the dialogue is taking place based on nonfact," Crowder said.

The clip is missing the following context:

Speaking to a conference organized by the All-In Podcast, Vance said of US-Israel ties: “Obviously Israel has been an important partner when it comes to military technology, when it comes to intelligence sharing, but also sometimes the United States doesn’t… agree with Israel.”

“Donald Trump is the one president of the last 40 years who’s been willing to say ‘You know what, yeah Bibi’s a good partner, but also Bibi and I have a different opinion on this,’ or ‘Bibi’s wrong about this,’ or maybe ‘Bibi’s right about this from the perspective of Israel, but the American people need us to go in a different direction.'”

Vance argued that “rooting this relationship, like all relationships, in America’s interest is the way to actually have a rational conversation here.”

“There is nothing in that statement, with which I can find significant disagreement,” Crowder said. “That is effectively my view of the United States relationship as it relates to foreign policy.”

Why is this controversial?

“That is a very clearly articulated position that is entirely defensible even if you disagree with it. If you were to disagree with that, his statement is a fair jumping-off point. The clip out of context and the summary thereafter of people misrepresenting it is not,” Crowder said.

Crowder later added, “I think most people in America, if they heard JD Vance's statement, would say, ‘those are sensible, and I think that someone who is, at the very least, willing to approach this rationally, which is what we need at this time.’ That is what I think most people would say.”
