There's been a lot of back and forth on the topic of California sending National Guard members to help out at the border. Teenage girls mid catfight or Trump and Jerry Brown arguing border security? I can't spot the difference. Equally annoying. First it didn't seem like Governor Brown would comply with the president's request. Then he did. Then he changed his mind about what that meant, and announced he wasn't actually deploying the troops to do borderly duties.

So the quibbling continued. Now we're here. Reportedly, the two have reached an agreement:

Gov. Jerry Brown says he has reached agreement with the Trump administration to deploy up to 400 California National Guard troops to the border and elsewhere.

What is this elsewhere they speak of? It could be anywhere from inner California to inner Jerry's walk-in closet to do some sorely needed spring cleaning. Such vagueness seems to be the California governor's modus operandi. He did manage to grace us with a few more details though.

Brown announced Wednesday that troops are expected to start deploying by the end of April. He says the federal government has agreed to fund his proposed mission for the California Guard to focus on drug and gun crime, not immigration.

Okay, so the Guard will at least be doing something more than twiddling their thumbs at the behest of California Democrats. Drug and gun crime is rampant among illegal immigrants, something President Trump has repeatedly called to crack down on. Sounds like this is a matter of semantics. Jerry doesn't want it to look like he caved on the border issue. It's a clashing of monstrous egos. The California Guard might say they're not arresting illegals because they're illegal, but because they're criminals. No one cares. As long as something is being done about the border crapstorm, that is. Even if it means the Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico Guards head official immigration duties while California sits on the sidelines like a porky water boy. It matters not.
