Watch: These are some of the gourmet items that can be bought using the taxpayer-funded SNAP

While browsing online, we came across a seriously delicious spread that we think you’ll love — and yep, it’s all SNAP eligible! Today’s show breaks it down.
We all know that one of the biggest controversies surrounding the government shutdown was over SNAP benefits. While common sense would suggest that these programs are intended to help people get back on their feet, the reality is quite different, as many recipients have been using these funds for more than two years.
The American taxpayer spends up to $130 billion a year on this program. And the worst part? The number-one item purchased with these funds is sugary drinks. So, while you might avoid buying these liquid desserts because you’re struggling to make ends meet, your tax dollars are still funding them.
SNAP recipients also spend twice as much per grocery trip as non-SNAP recipients. This might help explain why obesity rates are higher among SNAP participants—but you can do the math. One might then ask, what about “food deserts”? Well, with the advent of the interweb, that’s not really an issue anymore.
Items that are SNAP-eligible and can be shipped to your door for less than $5 a month include Coke, Takis, Cup of Noodles, and candy—among many other things that shouldn’t even be classified as food. But it gets even worse: that caviar you can’t afford because you spend your earnings on groceries? Well, those supposedly struggling more than you can buy it with your tax dollars. Isn’t it funny how that works?
“You guys out there with your white privilege, you just don’t know how the other half lives,” Crowder sarcastically said. “If you look at the bills and what is most commonly purchased with SNAP, it’s the kind of thing people considered treats for decades.” He added, “This is why we just have to defund it completely and end it all.”
According to Crowder, anyone receiving these benefits who fails to use the funds for essentials “is not a good person.”
“I don’t know why it’s considered selfish for low-income Americans to want to keep their money, but it’s not selfish for people on SNAP to want to keep these luxuries,” Crowder said.
