If a film's goal is to challenge "heteronormative" ideas about gender, it is safe to assume that the message will also be hateful towards men. I know men and women are different. You know men and women are different. But the producers of the Barbie movie want to gaslight an entire generation to believe that boys can play with dolls and that there is no such thing as "traditional gender norms.” Which is arguably, what the Barbie movie intends to do. But not everyone is here to condone such an idiotic message. And surprisingly, Shakira is one of those people.
Shakira said she believed that the Barbie movie was “emasculating” and that her sons hated it.
According to the Post Millennial:
Award-winning singer/songwriter Shakira spoke out against the female-forward Barbie movie in a new interview with Allure magazine. When she was asked about the film, in the context of women's empowerment, she said "My sons absolutely hated it."
"They felt that it was emasculating," she told Allure writer Patricia Alfonso Tortolani, "And I agree, to a certain extent. I'm raising two boys. I want 'em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women."
One of the most irritating things about modern-day feminism is that it applies a level of guilt to half the population with no individual evidence, and subsequently demands that half of the world's population needs to be torn down to uplift women. But the only problem with that is that it makes absolutely no sense and is fueled by a bunch of ugly women whose entire self-worth revolves around their hate for men.
It is actually quite cruel to tell boys that they are part of some evil and invisible patriarchy that no one has yet to describe, all because of their gender.
"I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity," she continued.
I cannot say that I disagree.
One of the many problems with feminism is that it argues that there is no difference between men and women. But there is a huge difference. So much so that in the most egalitarian societies, gender differences are the strongest.
I am sure the Barbie movie was not the worst production from 2023. Nonetheless, it has a message that we will not condone. Because Shakira is correct, boys should feel powerful, too.
