America is starkly divided in its opinion on Trump extracting Maduro from Venezuela to stand trial in America. Now, does America fully understand what happened and why? Doubtful. I do this for a living, and I struggle with it. But a thing happened, so let's generate a set of numbers that the media assigns meaning to! Like Jake Tapper pointing out 42% of America OPPOSES Trump's Maduro operation.
As Scott Jennings points out... so?
It's Trump. 42% of the American people would oppose it if he cured cancer personally in the Oval Office tonight. There is a reflexive opposition to Trump. It is the entire platform of the Democrat Party. You see Democrats today who long came on this network and others and called for Maduro's ouster, demanded it, now saying they oppose the fact that Donald Trump just arrested Maduro.

Polls like this crack me up. Instant reaction polls on significant events, like those that delve into global politics and foreign policy. You call people to ask them about a military operation that happened over the weekend while they were sleeping, and when they haven't been paying much attention to the news. This may shock some of you, but there are people who log off of X-Twitter of their weekend and enjoy their lives.
If they don't understand precisely what you're talking about, they definitely understand the word "Trump." And that is how they answer the question. "What about this thing that Trump did" turns into "What do you think about Trumpity Trumpy Trump Trump."
Polls like this provide zero value other than to fill up a few segments on cable news or for a little cheap social media engagement. They are used not to inform, but to craft a narrative. That way, there can be follow-up polls once enough of the audience has been exposed to said narrative.
Approve/Disapprove also provides no value when it comes to foreign policy, because it strips away the mountain of nuance needed to craft an informed opinion.
I say this with all due respect to @realDonaldTrump . When I thought this was a limited strike to go after Maduro, I was willing to defend it. But now that I hear we will be "running Venezuela," I have some concerns. Because I've lived at the business end of this kind of foreign…

Expecting CNN to report nuance is too much of an ask. They're journalismers.
