It would seem odd that a Scottish politician in Scotland would lash out at pubs. Yes, in Scotland. The issue is that they aren't welcoming to people who oppose alcohol. Again, yes, in Scotland. Then you see the Scottish politician from Scotland is named Irshad Ahmed, and that his issue is the pubs, because they serve alcohol, are unwelcoming to "religious minorities," and it all starts to make sense.
Are there American politics I could be talking about the day before the midterm elections? Sure. But...know what I mean?

The viral clip that has been working its way around Cousin Elon's internets was from debating a report on “Alcohol and Drug Deaths (Public Health Approach)”. So sayeth Scotland's own Irshad Ahmed:
At a time when it is much easier to stay home or spend time alone on our phone, I do not want to underestimate the social value of a trip to the pub. Pubs are amazing spaces and, let us face it, the trend towards the sale of alcohol to consume at home has not helped us. It is linked with rising harms, but pubs are not spaces designed for families, young teenagers or religious minorities such as mine, and we need those shared spaces, too.

The implication being made by X-Twitter users is that PM Ahmed wants pubs banned, or at least wants to ban them from selling alcohol so that religious minorities would be happy, but that is NOT the case in this clip. This was simply a public debate about the dangers of alcohol. You can't just assume that a politician with a religious minority background would want things banned for his minority religious sensibilities. Or that even a white politician would do so in order to pander to those voters.
🚨WATCH: A Muslim school administrator in Maine wants to ban dogs from being class pets because dog saliva is considered impure under Islamic law.Abdullahi Ahmed, a senior administrator at Portland Public Schools in Maine, argued that students and staff “should not be required to interact” with animals at school, and that dogs should be kept out of classrooms and common areas. Instead, kids would “opt in” to visiting a dog in a separate room.Speaking at an Oct. 14 school board policy committee meeting, Ahmed said that under Islamic tradition “the dog’s saliva is considered impure,” and that letting some students pet a dog while others can’t creates conflict. He added that he’d prefer the district “not to have a dog as a class pet.”The board is drafting a new “Animals in Schools” policy, sparked by a teacher’s plan to foster puppies in her classroom.

One of MP Ahmed's debate opponents, Amanda Lindsay, also implied Ahmed was looking for a ban and requested clarification:
When an elected member states that pubs are not designed for certain religious minorities, the public is entitled to ask what this means for the future of these shared spaces. We should be able to discuss the role of pubs in Scottish society openly and without apology. Our traditional community venues are worth defending.
But again, there is NO REASON to think a politician from a religious minority background, upon being elected into office, would ever ban anything from the culture enjoyed by the MAJORITY of people just to appease people from that religious minority background. Dare I say, it would be -phobic to think such an official would ever want to do such a thing.
