OPINION: You're Not Crazy, the Left Redefines Words to Remake Reality
Welcome to day two of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's media concentration camp. The freshman congresswoman has, yet again, commandeered the news cycle by saying something false and, rather than apologizing, she doubled down. America doesn't have concentration camps on the Southern Border. But facts are completely irrelevant when a leftist has a narrative to push in order to shift the Overton window.
All AOC and her compatriots in media need to do is plant the idea in the American consciousness that illegal immigration enforcement is unpalatable, thus removing a winning issue from Trump and the Republican Party. The way AOC and others have gone about it is to hit America for being callous and inhumane, referencing the inscription on the Statue of Liberty as if its law (it's not), and outright comparing the enforcement of immigration laws to Hitler, Nazism and the Holocaust. I still stand by my initial takeaway on AOC's intellectual shortcomings. But she knows she'll get away with the concentration camp comments because of the semantic pioneers who came before her, who successfully redefined terms to redefine the culture into a Democrat dream.
Most notably, marriage.
Marriage was always the union of one man and one woman. Marriage wasn't ever exclusively about love. Throughout time, marriage has been used for economic reasons, diplomacy, politics, as a way to survive, and to best raise children. Children can only come from the union of one man and one woman. But marriage as a show of love, that's not what defines the institution. One man and one woman joined in a union, that was always what defined the institution. A single person cannot be married, just as a man cannot be married to his blowup doll. By definition, all words exclude that which they are not. Marriage was no different. It was exclusionary based on being something. Because to be something it must be some thing not everything.
Yet the left, in a quest to torpedo all that was normal, redefined marriage to be about love. What person could ever be against love? The same tactic was used decades earlier with "choice." Who could be against choice? Campaigns like #LoveIsLove successfully appealed to people who feel first, think never. Who doesn't want to feel good about their decisions to support those who aren't supported? So the left succeeded in redefining an institution which predated Nancy Pelosi's first facelift.
Choice, marriage, now the left has moved onto what it means to be men and women. It's fluid, you see. You can be whatever you want to be. You can love whoever you want to love. If you define yourself as a genderless alien, you are a genderless alien. We're living in everyone's own personal matrix, just so long as that matrix isn't a scientific, biological reality, but one based on "feelings." We all want to do right by each other's feelings. We all want to feel like we're championing someone's cause. It feels good to support others.
So we are no longer men or women. We're now "cis-men" or "cis-women" if not "transmen" and "transwomen." And yet again, in order to communicate, we unintentionally retreat. We freely say "transwoman" and "transmen" to distinguish them, yes, but also because the language was changed in order to alter our reality. To call a man "a man" is now hate speech if that man has insisted his version of his reality be respected by everyone else living in actual reality.
See, I already had to define reality as "actual reality." Terrified yet?
Of course, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes she'll be able to thwart Trump and Republicans' efforts to enforce immigration laws. She just needs to alter the language. She knows the connotation of "concentration camps," she's not so stupid as to misunderstand what she's doing. She knows exactly what she's doing. She needs only to move the window just enough to trigger the feels of her mindless base, leveraging the support of a complicit media, to plant into the consciousness that illegal immigration enforcement is inhumane. We all want to feel like we're championing someone's cause, after all.
She won't back down, why should she? We now have transwomen claiming to have female biological penises, and the Democrats just voted to force those transwomen into sports with women. To misgender someone in Canada is an actionable offense. Marriage is now defined without definitions. Men marry men. Women marry women. People marry poltergeists and themselves. If everything is what the left redefines it as, why shouldn't illegal immigration be just like the Holocaust?
In order to stop this, we must first stop kowtowing to it. Men are men. Nothing but the Holocaust is the Holocaust. Marriage is one man and one woman. Abortion isn't a choice, it's murder. Secondly, we must illustrate exactly what the left is doing and why: changing the tools of communication to change what is real. The left then bullies opposition in attempts to shut it up and make you think you're crazy. Don't back down.
To the left, reality is but a societal construct, and they want to deconstruct it.
