Is this what people mean when they throw out the term “toxic empathy?” Because as far as I am concerned, that would be an understatement to describe whatever this is.

A NYU Student tried to explain to Nick Shirley why she believes rapists, including her own alleged rapist, should be kept out of the prison system.

Is this the sort of education our tax dollars are funding?

According to the student, incarcerating the most evil people among us won't fix whatever is “going on in their heart,” or lack thereof, and that is why she believes it is more evil to jail rapists than the other way around. And if this is not making any sense to you, it is because she makes zero sense.

I am having trouble seeing how anyone who was supposedly raped would try to justify keeping their abuser out of prison. But what was she even talking about? She truly believes there is some deep feeling that needs to be uncovered inside the rapist's ego or whatever, and that only when you uncover that feeling will you fix them. I don't know. That is just my two cents, trying to make sense out of nonsense. Draw your own conclusions.

That being said, you don't have to dissect anyone's feelings. Holding people accountable for crimes is the number one way to prevent crime. This is not rocket science, and the fact that she believes keeping rapists out of prison is more compassionate for vulnerable people is delusional, to say the very least.

But none of what she said matters. As a society, we have an obligation to protect vulnerable people. And the only way to do that is to keep the evil ones away. Glad we cleared that up.
