NRA Responds to Trump's Due Process, Second Amendment Comments
The right to keep and bear arms is rather clear in the Second Amendment. Yet liberal diaperwads the country over would like us all to believe it's a complicated Amendment full of nuance. No. One such person who, at best, is "confused" about the Second Amendment is no other than our commander in chief. Before donning your MAGA hat to scream "Trump was playing underwater 4d backgammon while blindfolded" don't. Spare me the fangirling. What Trump said yesterday about due process and the Second Amendment was incredibly harmful at worst, utterly ignorant at best. So severe I just used two adverbs in one sentence. The NRA, which also got a dishonorable mention in Trump's stupid utterances, took no time issuing their response.
From The Hill:
“While today’s meeting made for great TV, the gun control proposals discussed would make for bad policy that would not keep our children safe,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said in a statement to The Hill. “Instead of punishing law-abiding gun owners for the acts of a deranged lunatic our leaders should pass meaningful reforms that would actually prevent future tragedies.”
Baker said they can start by fixing the broken mental health system, strengthening background checks to ensure the records of people who are prohibited from possessing firearms are in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, securing our schools and preventing mentally ill individuals deemed dangerous from accessing firearms.
Shorter NRA: enforce laws already on the books instead of blaming law-abiding Americans for the acts of the criminally deranged. Maybe start with following up on any of the 39 tips received about the Parkland shooter prior to him becoming the "Parkland shooter." Or maybe advising the FBI to spend more time investigating credible tips, less time with their craniums lodged inside their own anal cavities. Just ideas.
Jennifer Baker continued:
“Whether you love or hate firearms, we all want to send our children to safe schools and to live in safe communities," she said.
But Baker argues it can be accomplished without "shifting the focus, blame or burden onto safe, law-abiding gun owners."
“Doing everything we can as a nation to address the problem of dangerous people committing heinous acts is not inconsistent with the Second Amendment — the systemic failures of government to keep us safe reinforces the need for the Second Amendment,” she said. “We will continue to support legislative efforts to make our schools and communities safe and oppose gun control schemes that cannot keep us safe and only punish law-abiding Americans.”
She's right. The government failed in every conceivable way. It's not the first time, either. Read Pentagon Knew of Lapse in Military Crime Reporting. Did Nothing and BREAKING: Cities Sue Pentagon for Fudging Up Military Crime Reporting for more governmental FUBARs.
Yet the left's reaction is always to blame people who honor their Second Amendment right. So feverish was the sentiment, the stupid reached its tentacles all the way into the White House. Where it wrapped around the orangey coif of Frankly Trump. Using him as some kind of puppet to spread the unconstitutional dribblings to all of America.
Now, in typical Trump fashion, the totally normal-sized hand president has kind of walked back his statements. As if taking advice from Fox and Friends' morning panel. I guess that's a good thing. A better thing would be for Trump not to have vocalized such tyrannical stupidity in the first place, thus requiring walk backs. If wishes were horses we'd all spend more time raking manure.
