If buying a new car was a smart thing to do with money, Chevy would have totally gotten me with this commercial.
I'm guessing whoever pitched it wasn't your typical marketing executive living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. If they understood what actually appeals to Americans, this commercial wouldn't stand out as unique and exceptional. They would have also thrown in an AI-generated country song. You know, to appeal to the rubes.
The question is how soon before the left and the media (but I repeat myself) tries to Sydney Sweeney this. I expect TikTokers attacking the car company, so that their ideological colleagues who work in the media and create journalisming content about said TikTok videos. Too many conservatives are enjoying and sharing the commercial, which means it's up to the media and the left (but I repeat myself) to find something wrong with it. You know, what with raising a family being "right-coded."
Appropos of nothing, anytime I use internet phrases like "left-coded" and "right-coded," I want to punch myself in the face. And don't get me started on "attention economy." Or "this is what they took from us."
Where the commercial hits you in the feels depends on what stage of the journey you're at. I'm on the "daughter accidentally damages the backseat with her ice skates" stage. Other members of my family are at the going to their kids house at Christmas for the first time stage. It's a stage I can see heading my way more rapidly than I'd like to admit. Or am ready for.
Also, the part with the dog. I'm not even a dog person, and I needed a moment to myself.
Holidays should be a reminder to slow down and appreciate what's important. Sometimes, you need a reminder to remember that. Even though it's in the name of selling cars, Chevy nailed that reminder by sharing this family's journey.
