“At least she is a she”: Obese pageant queens vs. men pretending to be women on today's show

Beauty pageants in America have been going downhill for quite some time now, as being a female or having beauty are not actually requirements anymore. Subsequently, in the pursuit to be inclusive, people are taking titles they likely would have never had.
This week saw a lot of “firsts” in the American beauty pageant industry. Not only did Alabama select the fattest beauty queen in the history of beauty queens but Maryland will be represented by a man, for the first time, in the Miss USA pageant. Today’s show breaks it down.
"We don't just make fun of fat people for being fat. If someone is just trying to do their thing no one cares. It's when somebody comes out and says [this is] body positivity and bravery," Gerald A said. “But at least she is a she.”
The "National American Miss pageant is a program based on the foundational principle of fostering positive self-image by enhancing natural beauty within."
"They could have just said this was a pageant for ugly people," Lane the Brain said.
This is technically true because on their website they instruct people to "Forget everything you thought you knew about pageantry." And the only thing people knew about beauty pageants was that it involved "beauty."
"It's supposed to be a beauty pageant but it basically turning a beauty pageant on its head," Gerald A said.
But you can't say "At least she is a she" for Miss Maryland because he/she is a man who claims to be doing this for the trans kids.
“I knew that it was going to mean a lot for all the LGBTQ kids out there who might feel like they don’t belong in a box — like me growing up.”
Hopefully, Miss Maryland doesn't go on to represent the USA in the Miss Universe pageant, which is also owned by a man. Unclear if more men will hold state titles for the Miss USA pageant but don't be surprised if they do.
