Striking LA Hotel Workers Walked Off The Job In July, So Now They're Being Replaced By Homeless Migrants
Progressives always eat their own.
Be careful what you wish for, because sometimes your demand for a $50 hourly wage ends up turning into $0.
According to the Los Angeles Times, around 15,000 employees have gone on strike at about 60 hotels in Southern California since July.
Several Los Angeles hotels are replacing employees with homeless migrants from Skid Row as the city deals with an influx of migrants.
Progressive DA George Gascón announced he will launch an investigation in regard to this matter
“We take these egregious allegations with the utmost seriousness. The mistreatment of vulnerable workers and their exploitation will not be tolerated. We will conduct an exhaustive investigation, working closely with UNITE HERE Local 11 and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with labor laws and protect the rights and dignity of all workers," said Gascón.
UNITE HERE Local 11 is the union that represents the striking hotel workers.
Nearly a dozen “asylum seekers” - mostly from Venezuela and Colombia - told the LA Times they had been working at hotels where union members were picketing outside.
The hotel workers claim they don’t they do not earn enough to afford housing near their workplaces, which is why they are trying to get higher wages, better benefits, and improved working conditions.
The co-president of the union said the hotels are forcing these migrants to " cross the picket line."
“I can’t believe they are forcing these people, who are so desperate, to cross the picket line,” Petersen told the Times. “Instead of addressing L.A.’s housing crisis, the hotel industry prefers to exploit the unhoused as strikebreakers to avoid paying their own workers enough to afford housing themselves.”
No one is “forcing” anyone to do anything. These “migrants” willfully came to this country and are now trying to work. It was those on the picket line who decided they didn’t want to.
If a homeless migrant is skilled enough to do the job of those in the union, there is no way the demands from those on strike should be granted.
According to the union, the hotel offering people who have no homes the ability to work, while others refuse to work, is just them stooping to "a new low.”
According to the Times, the migrants described heavy cleaning loads and long hours. Some said they were offered $19 an hour, while others said they were given no prior information on how much they would be paid. They also did not know the name of the agency that recruited them.
That sounds like a personal problem if you ask me. Are migrants really complaining that they are "only" getting $19 an hour? There are actually Americans in Georgia and Wyoming who are barely making $7 an hour. But people who crossed on over last week are somehow entitled to more than $19? Get real.
According to CAP action, union members voted for the Democratic Party presidential candidate in much greater proportions than did nonunion members in 2020, cementing President Biden’s electoral victory.
Labor unions overwhelmingly vote for the party that favors unchecked immigration. It is probably safe to assume that they will never support any effort to enforce immigration laws. Now they are learning the hard way that if automation doesn't take their jobs, unchecked immigration just might do it.
But what are the illegals supposed to do in a sanctuary state? Why should the hotel hire spoiled brats who think they are entiled a higher wage for a job a homeless migrat can do?
This is why you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
