State education leaders in Michigan have decided that it’s best for your child to be taught about gender identity and sexual orientation. According to Bridge Michigan, this is because it “will help LGBTQ+ students understand themselves.” And one parent who supported the resolution went as far as to claim that it doesn’t matter if parents are against this, as they don’t know best. It’s up to “the experts” and “the scientists” to decide what is in the best interest of your children.
Despite opposition from some parents and pastors, the Michigan State Board of Education approved revised state health education standards Thursday that include recommendations that students be taught about gender identity and sexual orientation.
The board voted 6-2 on approving the “Michigan Health Education Standards Guidelines.” Members made the decision after roughly two hours and 40 minutes of public comments, which were split between those in favor of the guidelines and those opposed to them.
Someone should really inform these people that you can teach students to respect everyone without indoctrinating them about gender identity—but I digress.
There is zero urgency or need to pass such an asinine resolution. Everyone and their grandmas did just fine without measures like this, and they will continue to be fine if these ideas stay out of the education system.
Remember when schools actually prioritized things like math and English? One would assume that this is what state education leaders would spend the majority of their time on, but clearly, they thought this was a priority worthy of their attention.
The speaker at the meeting has a lot of nerve claiming that he knows what’s in the best interest of every child in the state, all while demanding that parents who disagree treat science as their god.
That being said, we’ll now have to wait and see how many districts implement this curriculum—but why do I get the feeling it’s already infested across schools in the state? Weird. Maybe that’s just a hunch.
