In Australia, the government cannot be bothered to find your stolen car or prosecute the thief who stole it. They will, however, hold you accountable for other people’s actions when you are the victim of grand theft auto.

An Australian couple is flabbergasted after the government fined them $4,000 because the burglar who stole their car wasn't wearing a seatbelt. It's unclear how they can find out he wasn't wearing a seatbelt but not be able to arrest him, but you do the math.
According to Road Track:
According to the report, Leila and Hamid were sleeping in their Gold Coast home when a gang of masked intruders broke in, allegedly ransacking the home looking for valuables and car keys. Hamid was woken up by the noise, chased the thieves from the home, and called the police—but he said the cops never arrived, and the thieves came back a short time later. This time, they took a Lexus SUV, then made their escape. Hamid said called the police a second time, but they reportedly never showed up to the property; according to the report, it has been three weeks since the incident, and the police have yet to visit the home.
However, Leila and Hamid did receive some correspondence from the authorities—just not at all what they were expecting. The coupe say they received a hefty fine because a traffic camera caught the thief driving their SUV while not wearing a seatbelt. The couple has until March 3 to pay the $6258 AUD fine, or they may face additional fees.
This is what happens when the left controls the government. Not only can they not be bothered to fulfill the most basic duties of governance, which is to uphold public safety, but law-abiding citizens are slapped in the face and held accountable for crimes they never committed. That's not progress, it's a regression to lawlessness that has no place in civil society.
Why the left hates law and order so much, to the point that they criminalize victims and condone lawlessness, is beyond reason. And in whatever pathetic pursuit that is, an innocent couple will now have to fork over thousands of dollars for a crime they never committed, all while the government turns a blind eye to the real threat to public safety. If that is not tyranny, nothing is.
