It would appear no one told Maine that woke is dead and that, in Donald Trump's America, we don't have to pretend boys are girls anymore. The issue is still being debated at school board meetings, where one AWFL member claimed that if you don't want boys playing in girls' sports, then YOU'RE the pedophile.

You know the debate. One side believes in biology and feels that because boys are born with certain biological advantages in strength and athletics, it is unfair for them to compete against girls, effectively robbing girls of opportunities like scholarships and being able to discover themselves as they learn, grow, and develop.

The other is anti-science, votes Democrat, and thinks you're a transphobe. They also want your daughter exposed to weiners in the name of tolerance and equity.

Kennebunk Select Board member Leslie Trentalange, at a meeting last month, declared herself part of that later group.

For shame, [parents who care about their daughters] obsession with genitalia points not to caring for the students in this district, but perhaps toward an underlying guilt for their own pedophilic tendencies. There is a registry for that.

Trentalange later went on to apologize to, quote, "folks in the marginalized queer community who feel my message did not serve them, or hurt them in any way."

Side note: When did "queer" become an ok word to say? That was always an Archie Bunker and Homer Simpson word.

It's unclear if there is a specific issue that set this off in Maine. Last month, parents stripped at a school board meeting to illustrate the absurdity of allowing boys to do the same in the girls' locker room. Then in 2023, Soren Stark-Chessa, who ranked only 172nd in the 5k as a freshman boy, decided he'd always been a girl and became the fastest sophomore in the region, besting the second-fastest female sophomore by 80 seconds. She/her accomplishments was tarred when her/she was marginalized by hecklers shouting "way to cheat, bro."

I don't know if there is a specific incident that led to this meeting, or if parents are seeing how far to the left unchecked school districts are going (::cough::Northern Virginia::cough::) and speaking up to shut it all down beforehand. Putting a stop to boys playing in girls' sports before it gets to middle school kids being assigned pornography is a wise tactical decision.

One thing I find myself wondering. Leslie, like many of these adults who share the political opinion that boys can be girls, looks old enough to remember when we all believed in science and biology. At what point did that change? Did a memo go out shortly before 2020? Inquiring minds, and all that.
