Maebe A. Girl is not actually a girl, despite what the name suggests. He is, however, running for the California State Legislature. The biggest realization may not be that this cartoon-like trans individual is seeking office, but rather that the state has yet to elect a lawmaker as uncertain about their gender identity as he is. Nonetheless, this is not surprising.
Maebe A. Girl would be the first transgender person and drag queen to serve in the State Senate if elected. According to the LA Public Press, his campaign slogan is “Keep Fascism Out of California.” He reportedly chose this slogan because, in his words, “We’re living in a highly militarized, authoritarian moment right now.” So, in other words, this man does not exactly live in reality. But then again, what else do you expect from a guy who thinks he’s not a dude?
It’s unclear exactly which human rights he plans to fight for in the State Legislature—especially in California, of all places—considering the state not only recognizes human rights broadly but also provides additional protections for people like him. What more could he possibly want?
He also thinks that because he has volunteered at shelters, he’ll be able to do something about the homelessness problem. I don’t know about you, but I remain skeptical that volunteer experience automatically translates into solving homelessness—but that’s neither here nor there.
I also have my doubts that he will make California any more adorable or safe, but I digress. Additionally, how much more “inclusive” can one make the state? At this point, the more inclusive they get, the more exclusive it seems to become. And something tells me that when they say “inclusive,” they probably don’t mean Trump supporters—but that’s just a hunch.
Some of the things he believes in are “housing for all,” “healthcare for all,” and “renters’ rights.” He claims Californians can have all of these things, yet offers no explanation of how they would be funded. Additionally, what exactly are “renters’ rights”? We already have private property rights, so it’s unclear how a renter could have rights to something they don’t own—but I digress.
While I would never victim-blame, if Angelenos elect this nut, it would be impossible to feel sorry for them.
