Jelly Roll is a country music celebrity who, before this week, was generally considered likable by most people. He guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a show popular with people who look down on the parts of America that like country music. Yet when that part of America expressed their disapproval over "jokes" about Donald Trump, Jelly Roll stood with those he thinks are his new friends and told his fans to go to hell (I'm paraphrasing).

Not sure who has been advising Jelly, but I'm pretty sure whoever it is hates him.

[I'm hosting] a damn late-night show. That’s where you talk about the news and you make jokes. For those who threatened to stop listening to my music based on my comments last night, I just want to say with conviction: go right ahead.

The issue isn't with Trump or what Jelly said about Trump, but where he said it and who he was pandering to saying it.

The president is fair game. When we celebrate Trump being a dick to people, we look silly acting offended when people are a dick to him. Ok? Ok.

And the "jokes" were objectively lazy and unfunny. I think it was a South Park thing (a lot of whose jokes I thought WERE funny) where they tried to bait Trump into reacting, and when he didn't, they went overboard trying too hard.

The problem isn't that he repeated lazy jokes about Trump on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. It's not even about Trump. It's about Jimmy Kimmel's entire business being predicated on how much he and the people who work for him hate the half of the country who have a different opinion than them.

The half of the country that most of Jelly Roll's fans come from.

Jelly Roll is popular with the people the Jimmy Kimmel audience hates, who vote for people Jimmy Kimmel's "comedy" writers hate. THEY were the target of Jelly Roll's Trump jokes. Not the president.

Jelly Roll looked like a buffoon willing to sell out his fans for the approval of people who aren't, in the hope he could get a seat at the cool kids' table.

The cool kids' table that I'd bet all the money in my pockets right now are laughing AT Jelly Roll on Slack.

If Jelly Roll wants to get upset at anyone, it should be the people who allowed him to get taken advantage of like this. And for what? His new "friends" will just turn on him the next time he hangs out with Joe Rogan (who they also hate), or Morgan Wallen (who they also hate), or the UFC (who they also hate), or... and so on.
