Her Brother Was an Officer Killed in the Riots, and She Wants to Know: Did His Black Life Matter?
Officer David Patrick Underwood was killed in Oakland during the riots. Just like retired police chief David Dorn in St. Louis, Underwood was African-American. Angela Underwood Jacobs, sister of the slain officer, spoke before a congressional hearing and asked an important question: Did his life matter?

The heartbreak and the grief is inexplainable because it's very, very hard to articulate when your entire world has been turned upside down. I do want to know, though, when I think about all of this is that — my brother wore a uniform, and he wore that uniform proudly. I'm wondering, where is the outrage for a fallen officer that also happens to be African-American?
I want to separate when black people say "black lives matter" from when the political left says it. In the former, it's being said based on life experiences and perspective from not just themselves, but also from their family and generations before them. Experiences and perspectives that I'm not going to insult by claiming I understand. Experiences and perspectives, mind you, that, unlike what the political left wants you to believe, aren't just one collective monolithic view (see RADIO HOST TRINA TAYLOR RECEIVES BACKLASH FOR COMPARING RIOTERS TO ANIMALS. SHE'S NOT BACKING DOWN. and TERRY CREWS CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT: WHITE PEOPLE AND BLACK PEOPLE SHOULD TALK TO EACH OTHER). This is the America where we need more conversations and less hashtags.
The problem is that the political left has the loudest microphone, because it includes not only politicians, but also most in the media and the entertainment industry. "Black Lives Matter" is how they signal their virture, even though it's clear they don't even think all black lives matter. Only the ones they can score political points off of.
Ms. Underwood-Jacobs deserves an answer to her question.
