Woke rocker lashes out at "racist country star" in new song, and the streets say she's talking about Morgan Wallen

There are few things lazier than calling country artists racist or the opinions of woke white women. Unless, of course, you get an AWFL singer dropping lyrics calling a country singer raaaaaaacist. In that case, you have Paramore leader singer Hayley Williams. She lashed out at a country singer she claims is raaaaaacist, and the streets say she means Morgan Wallen.
I'll cop to being a Paramore fan up to and including "Ain't It Fun," but in the years since Williams has been trying to reinvent herself as being, like, totally into vital social issues and stuff. She has told fans that they aren't to come to her shows if they vote for people she doesn't like, and occasionally is given a script to read about whatever that week's anti-Trump talking points are.
In her new song as a solo artist, “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (EDAABP),” she dropped these bars:
“I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls
I’m the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls”
Now, she doesn't mention Wallen by name. She could easily be talking about Jason Alden and John Rich, who also have bars in Nashville. Anytime someone AWFL accuses someone of an -ism, a -phobia, or being an -ist, all they mean is that person has an opinion they disagree with.
It was the investigative work of Whiskey Riff that uncovered an interview Williams did, where she named Wallen's bar as the bar she hates the most. She also unironically uses the word "fascism" if your eyes haven't rolled out of your socket yet.
@stereogum “I'll be the biggest star at this racist country singer's bar,” Hayley Williams sings on her excellent new song “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party.” Maybe you are wondering what Hayley’s favorite racist country singer’s bar is? Our Nashville nightlife correspondent’s friend Shaad was wondering too. @Paramore @The Lipstick Lounge #HayleyWilliams #Nashville #nightlife #LipstickLounge #countrymusic #MorganWallen #LGBTQ #Paramore ♬ original sound - stereogum
Wallen is every lazy AWFL's country artist to attack. To recap, in 2021, Wallen was caught on video drunk and using the n-word (soft g) joking around with friends. It was at a moment when he lost his battle with alcoholism, the video was at the end of a three-day bender. He owned up to it and apologized. Most people are over it, except for one key demographic that Wes Langeler, co-founder of the most entertaining country music website in the history of mankind, identifies as: "Rappers and athletes don’t seem to have a problem with [Wallen]… but a whole lotta angry white women do."
It's faux-outrage that Jimmie Allen, a friend of Morgan's and a fellow country superstar, called out, noticing most of the people claiming to be offended were mayonnaise-looking, and asking if they were so offended, what have they done for the black community other than shame a country singer with a mullet?
But when people start to use words like ‘offended’ – that word ‘offended’ is weird to me because my grandfather told me at a young age when someone says something to someone else not directed at you that doesn’t affect you, the only way you can become offended is if you are so self-absorbed and you make something about you that’s not about you.
For those of you not familiar with country music, Allen is the one on the right.
If nothing else, I guess people now know that Hayley Williams released a solo album. Meanwhile, Wallen is doing what he normally does: selling out stadiums across America with a sick lineup of support artists.
Exit question: Do you think Hayley Williams has thoughts on Sydney Sweeney this week?
