Gilbert Gottfried's Last Instagram Post Before Death Was, Of Course, About Chris Rock and Will Smith
The comedy world lost another legend this week in Gilbert Gottfried. The comedian passed away from a rare genetic muscle disease at age 67. Gottfried stayed active on social media, so of course, he had thoughts on his friend Chris Rock getting slapped at the Oscars. Regretfully, or maybe fittingly, it wound up being his final post before the announcement of his passing.
The caption read: "Which is the worst crime? Chris Rock being physically assaulted or Chris Rock telling a joke?"
For those who have opposed all pop culture news for the last month, let me explain the joke. There is an awards show called the "Oscars." Will Smith, who is in a bad place, was at the show with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Chris Rock, while presenting an award, made a joke about a movie. Will found it funny. Jada didn't find it funny. Will stopped finding it funny and assaulted Chris Rock on stage. That made Jada laugh. Gilbert Gottfried makes a joke that the biggest crime was letting Chris Rock on stage. The Aristocrats.
Granted, the Instagram post wasn't some of Gottfried's best material. That would be his roast of Hugh Hefner.

The world is a less funny place than it was a few days ago. Between this and the passings of Bob Saget and Louie Anderson, it's been a rough year for comics. My prayers go out to his friends and family and to the comedy community as a whole.
