People on the left tend to suffer from “motivated reasoning.” This is a social response in which individuals suffer from uncontrollable and emotionally motivated biases that often affect how facts or new information is perceived. This is also why we often see the media seek out and use information that confirms the leftist narrative, and ignore information that contradicts it.

There is a politically correct narrative one must adhere to concerning all things police and racism, or lack thereof. Everyone reading this already knows that police are not by definition “racist.” But facts are not something that leftists care about when it comes to much of anything. That is why “all hell broke loose” when a professor at Harvard published a study that found no evidence of racial bias in police shootings.

A Harvard professor said that "all hell broke loose" and he was forced to go out in public with armed security after he published a study that found no evidence of racial bias in police shootings.

During a sit-down conversation with Bari Weiss of The Free Press, Harvard Economics Professor Roland Fryer discussed the fallout from a 2016 study he published on racial bias in Houston policing.

The study found that police were more than twice as likely to manhandle, beat or use some other kind of nonfatal force against blacks and Hispanics than against people of other races. However, the data also determined that officers were 23.8 percent less likely to shoot at blacks and 8.5 percent less likely to shoot at Hispanics than they were to shoot at whites.

When Fryer claimed the data showed "no racial differences in officer-involved shootings," he said, "all hell broke loose," and his life was upended.

Fryer said people quickly "lost their minds" and some of his colleagues refused to believe the results after months of asking him not to print the data.

You would think that finding out that the police have no racial bias is a good thing, but that’s not entirely true when you are politically motivated.

For the most part, if someone is not doing anything wrong, there is nothing to worry about. And we can make the argument that only criminals would care to prevent facts from being released to the public which proves that the police are not the problem. Only thugs would work to stop the release of data that proved that criminals are not the victims.

The world-renowned economist knew from comments by faculty that he was likely to garner backlash. Fryer admitted that he anticipated the results of the study would be different and would confirm suspicions of racial bias against minorities. When the results found no racial bias, Fryer hired eight new assistants and redid the study. The data came back the same.

After the report was published, Fryer lived under police protection for over a month.

This story is the perfect example of the problem with identity politics. When you identify with your beliefs as a part of yourself; you get personally offended when presented with irrefutable facts. And a lot of the time, beliefs are strengthened when presented with evidence that proves otherwise.

To sum it all up: Leftists can’t handle the truth. And this is exactly why we have the saying: "Republicans hate it when you lie. But Democrats hate it when you tell the truth."
