New York Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher believes that shoplifting should be decriminalized in some circumstances. According to her, if you steal hygiene products, it means you need them. This is why she believes the law should not apply to these losers, while everyone else follows basic societal rules.

Where have I heard this before? I think AOC would like a word.

Community activists are calling on Mayor Zohran Mamdani to push the NYPD to scale back on arrests for so-called "quality of life crimes."

These imbeciles will come up with any and every excuse to justify crime. It truly is astonishing. However, there is never an excuse for such bad behavior, especially when you can buy them at incredibly low prices, and food pantries often provide these necessities.

Additionally, if you are so poor you cannot afford toothpaste, you are more than likely on some form of government assistance that funds such necessities. This makes stealing even more unjustified.

The problem with claiming that people only steal when they need something is that, while that might be true, it is also false. People often resell these products at a lower rate. When you condone crime, you are just making it easier for people to steal, while increasing the cost of those products for everyone else.

"Most of what we saw were crimes of poverty-people who were stealing things like toothpaste, people who were stealing things like, you know, soap. And that means if you're stealing those things, you need them," Assemblymember Emily Gallagher said.

I cannot deal with this level of stupidity. It is infuriating.

Advocates believe shoplifting or bringing bags of trash onto the trains or sleeping in the subway should not be criminally prosecuted.

Neither should graffiti vandalism and public urination or even fare evasion. Former NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce disagrees, especially for repeat offenders.

Decriminalizing this behavior will only decrease public safety and make things worse for law-abiding citizens who just want basic decency. The fact that people are this mentally pathetic and naive is astonishing. It is a total disgrace.
