Denver Schools Adopt 'Language Justice' Policy. Also, 'Language Justice' Is Apparently A Thing Now
Due to the fact that liberals control the education system, we now live in a world where there is no end to what “educators” may take offense to.
English is our national language. This is a fact and should not be controversial. If anything, this should unite this country. But unfortunately, that is not the reality we live in.
Progressives in Colorado have decided that speaking your native tongue in your native country is actually racist. In fact, only the languages of other countries are not oppressive.
The Denver school district plans to adopt a “language justice” policy that would encourage non-English speaking students to be able to use their native language as opposed to being educated in English.
English is our native language and at the very least, you would think this would start in schools.
On the Nov. 16 school board agenda, the document stated that “language justice” is the “notion of respecting every individual’s fundamental language rights – to be able to communicate, understand, and be understood in the language in which they prefer and feel most articulate and powerful,” according to The Heartlander.
This obviously does nothing to benefit immigrant children. English isn't just used in America. It is used by people all around the world and is one of the most beneficial languages to know.
"DPS will be a district that is free of oppressive systems and structures rooted in racism and one which centers students and team members with a focus on racial and educational equity, enabling students to ultimately become conscientious global citizens and collaborative leaders," the draft policy reads.
It is further stated that the district has a responsibility to "achieve equity" by removing “deeply rooted systems of oppression that have historically resulted in inequitable access and distribution of opportunities and resources for those who represent marginalized identities, including but not limited to race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, and ability."
The ironic thing is that immigrants who speak English proficiently earn an estimated 24 percent more than those who do not. But I guess that can't get in the way of "equity," can it?
Denver public schools have at least 90,250 students with about 35,000 multilingual learners with languages other than English spoken at home, according to the Washington Examiner. The district has 200 languages spoken across the district, with Spanish being the majority.
Also, if any language is rooted in "oppression" you would think that progressives would have a problem with Spanish since it is a gendered language, but I guess that is not much of their concern. So much for trans rights.
“Here’s how it works: When somebody speaks in English, [interpreter Luis] Gomez simultaneously whispers the Spanish interpretation into his mic, which feeds the headsets of everyone in the room. There’s another person whispering the English interpretation when somebody speaks Spanish,” as explained in a post on The Colorado Trust’s website on how language justice could be implemented.
At the very least, this is a waste of money. But obviously, this is not surprising since communism tends to always destroy native culture.
