Watch: Crowder DESTROYS John Oliver Over His Latest Video On The Israel-Hamas War
John Oliver tried to play both sides in the Israel/Palestine conflict and made some pretty big lies. Today’s show breaks that down!
John Oliver unloaded on Israel in a segment of his HBO show “Last Week Tonight” on Sunday night.
Oliver tried to play both sides and said “It is true that Gazans did at one point elect Hamas. But if you think that makes them all complicit in war crimes their government commits, then boy, do I have bad news for you about decades of U.S. foreign policy.”
Oliver claimed that Hamas does not represent the people of Gaza.
In 2006, Hamas won 74 out of 132 seats in the Palestinian parliament.
"You can say that they don't represent all of the Palestinian people but you have not seen an election with 57 percent of the vote in this country in decades,” Crowder said. "It doesn't represent every single person in Palestine, but it does represent enough."
Recent polls show that 57 percent of Gazans express a favorable opinion of Hamas—along with similar percentages of Palestinians in the West Bank at 52 percent and East Jerusalem at 64 percent.
Oliver also claimed that Hamas was moderate when they were elected and that the party supported democratic pluralism in interviews leading up to the 2006 election.
“Hamas has clearly always been radical,” Crowder said.
The founding Hamas charter, states that “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”
Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri said at a rally in Gaza, Al-Jazeera TV in 2005, "We have come here in multitudes to proclaim that Hirbiya and Ashkelon will be taken by the mujahideen. We have come here to say that the weapons of the resistance that you see here will remain, Allah willing, so that we can liberate Palestine – all of Palestine – from the Sea to the River, whether they like it or not."
Oliver then quoted numbers from Hamas claiming that Israel had committed thousands of bombings in just the first several days.
“I would say that Hamas as a reference is biased, if not, slightly questionable,” Crowder said.
Hamas intentionally shields itself among civilians in hospitals and other places like schools.
The Israel Defense Forces also warns residents in Gaza before they go through with its air campaigns and has even dropped leaflets to warn them the area will soon be not safe and they should evacuate.
A senior Hamas official recently said that the terror group does not give shelter to Gazan civilians because it's the United Nations' responsibility to protect them.
Oliver also claimed Israel was destroying Gaza before this conflict began. Which is not true. Israel has even granted 18,000 Gazans work permits.
"Peace is a two-way street," Crowder said. "You only miss each other through an agreement where you both do not want to die. Peace cannot exist with a terrorist group."
