Chipotle Considers Rehiring Manager Who Refused to Serve Pranksters
Waiting for the facts should be a practice for not just mass shootings, crazy conspiracy theories, or what your mother-in-law actually said. Employers may want to wait for the facts prior to reacting to social media outrage when online trolls try getting employees fired. Because over the weekend, a Chipotle manager was canned after refusing to serve a group of young black men who, according to the manager, had failed to pay before. And who, according to their own social media accounts, engaged in "dine and dash."
First, the video:
Notice how most of the employees are not rocking the white privilege. Notice also how the camera operators are obnoxious and entitled, regardless of race. I'd be cautious to serve a group who're filming for reasons which are now very obvious.
Still, social media had to do its thing, and Chipotle let the manager go. From the Miami Herald:
Chipotle is rethinking its initial decision of firing one of its managers after a video posted Friday on Twitter showed employees refusing to serve five black men and asking them to prove they had the money to pay for their meals before placing their orders.“Our actions were based on the facts known to us immediately after the incident,” the company said Monday on Twitter. “We now have additional information which needs to be investigated further. We want to do the right thing, so after further investigation, we’ll re-train and re-hire if the facts warrant it.”
Hopefully Chipotle will do what's right by the manager, who appears to be protecting Chipotle from freeloading tricksters hoping to score a burrito at her expense.
Here are some screen captures from the camera operator's social media accounts:
So he's an ass. And public about it. Manager may need to get rehired and work in loss prevention.
I stand with Buck Sexton on this one:
Waiting for the facts. Let's make it great again before people's lives are destroyed by social media mobs.
