Just when you think the UK has already reached the lowest of lows, another day rolls by, and more people have been slapped on the wrist, to put it lightly, for terrible crimes.
Members of a family of burglars stole more than £1.2m worth of goods. Newcastle Crown Court has ordered each one of them to pay back £1 ($1.33 American). And no, this is not satire.

According to the BBC:
Brothers Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their sister Jela Jovanovic and her son Charlie Jovanovic travelled to the north-east of England to raid three houses in April 2024.
The foursome were jailed for between six and 10 years in May 2025.
At a proceeds of crime hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the Nikolov brothers were ordered to repay £1 while Charlie Jovanovic must pay £1,135.
The justice system is definitely not justifying this one!
The court previously heard the gang arrived by ferry in the UK on 27 March 2024 and used a campervan as their "base of operations", which they parked at Scotch Corner and Durham service stations while using another car to scout out targets and carry out burglaries.
At the proceeds of crime hearing, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said each of the burglars had benefited from their crimes to the value of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the victims said they had lost.
Why does it feel like, as long as the criminals are not from the UK, they are hardly punished for crimes? Oh, wait, maybe that is because that is the case.
This is Shukri Yusuf - a migrant from Somalia.
She fraudulently claimed £102,000 in benefits, which she spent on private school fees and a car.
She walked free from court with a suspended sentence. Meanwhile, white people are jailed for tweets. 🇬🇧 #twotierjustice pic.twitter.com/Tk5Wik8CVn

It gets worse.
The judge sentenced the migrant to 15 months probation and £670 in damages.

Worst of all, it's possible they may not even serve much of their jail time, as they meet the Home Office criteria for automatic deportation.
What message do you think this sends to other criminals? That so long as they spend all the money they steal, they will hardly be held accountable? Maybe if UK courts stop jailing people for memes and thought crimes, criminals would not feel so emboldened to steal over a million dollars' worth of items. I don't know. That is just my two cents. You can do the math.
