You would think that having fewer mentally disabled people in the world is an objectively good thing, but that’s not entirely true in the progressive pursuit of equity.

The Biden Administration wants to label more black veterans as mentally disabled as part of a new equity plan.

According to the Military Times:

Veterans Affairs officials will overhaul its outreach efforts to transitioning troops and new veterans as part of an effort to close gaps in disability benefits grant rates between Black and white vets, department leaders announced Wednesday.

Last summer, researchers from the Government Accountability Office found that Black veterans were less likely than any other racial group to have their initial disability claims approved by the department. From 2010 to 2020, roughly 61% of Black veterans saw those claims accepted, as opposed to 75% of white veterans.

Black veterans had a higher acceptance rate for claims submitted within the first year (85% to 83% for whites) but a lower rate after that (65% to 68% for whites).

In other words, they found out that black veterans who submitted a claim were actually accepted at a higher rate than white veterans, so they subsequently had to dig deeper to find this “inequity.”

Fewer black veterans receive disability compensation for mental health conditions than white vets (13% vs. 22%).

“We recognize that eliminating inequities of the past will not happen overnight, but we are fully dedicated to carrying it out with promptness and precision,” VA Under Secretary for Benefits Josh Jacobs said in a statement on the new work. “We will share our progress and our findings every step of the way.”

It’s not breaking news that the Veterans Administration is incredibly incompetent, at best. But when you add this new equity plan, you get a glimpse of what the left will do if they get their way with nationalized healthcare.

There is no incentive for VA doctors to provide the quality of care like in the private sector due to medical professionals getting paid the same regardless of the overall care or number of patients treated. And we all know how inevitable corruption is in a bureaucracy that big.

Combine all of that with an “equitable” diagnosis for claims and you get a leftist utopia.

There are likely two things that will become of this. Workers will either turn a blind eye to fraud AND/OR white veterans will get left behind solely based on the pursuit of equal outcomes.

This incentive is more than stupid, it’s evil. You don’t base health care decisions on insignificant birth traits like the color of one's skin. That’s not how health care works. But that is the perfect example of what progressivism is and what the left means when they demand “free healthcare.”
