Watch: Karmelo Anthony and the Truth About Black & White Relations in America
You may have assumed that the media would have just ignored the Karmelo Anthony/Austin Metcalf case, but no one predicted that they would turn the suspected killer into a victim. The case has just taken a shocking turn, and today’s show breaks it all down.
"He is not a victim," Crowder said. "He is not from a poor family who had to struggle.”
According to Fox News:
The 17-year-old charged in the stabbing death of high school track star Austin Metcalf will face an "uphill battle" if his attorneys present a self-defense claim in court, one expert says.
Karmelo Anthony, 17, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Metcalf's April 2 killing at a track meet in Frisco, Texas.
"If the evidence is what it is right now, I think he's going to have an uphill battle claiming self-defense," Julie Rendelman, a New York attorney who is not involved in the case, told Fox News Digital. "But we may learn much, much more that changes that perspective. And that could be for a jury or a grand jury to decide."
His bail was reduced from $1 million to $250,000. The father of the victim has only come out and said he “forgave” the accused killer.
"It's not just about forgiveness; justice does matter," Crowder said. "You can forgive and also seek justice. This whole thing has become a clown show."
On Thursday, Anthony's family made their first public comments during a news conference that went off the rails when their activist spokesman, Dominique Alexander, began criticizing Austin's father, Jeff Metcalf, who attended the news conference. The event was supposed to focus on how the GiveSendGo funds are being used.
Metcalf was escorted off the property by officers.
"What we've seen at the beginning of this press conference, of the father being at this press conference, these are my words – don't quote anybody – is a disrespect to the dignity of his son," Alexander said.
"That was disrespectful and just shows you all the character," Alexander said. "He was not invited. He knows that it's inappropriate to be near this family, but he did it. So, I say to people, actions speak louder than words."
During the press conference, Alexander claimed this case is proof of “the Black struggle in America.”
"But the ugly attacks on her just shows Black America that no matter what you pick in the ballot box — and that is your constitutional right — it's people out here reminding us of the Black struggle in America."
"You don't have a monopoly on struggle," Crowder said.
Metcalf claimed he forgave the suspect because it helps him come to terms with what happened.
"People ask me, how can you forgive this other person? I said I forgive the other person because the forgiveness is not for him. The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace," he said. "His life is destroyed. My life is destroyed."
"There is a cultural epidemic that is being pumped into a community,” Crowder said. “There is a racial component.”
Since the incident, the Metcalf’s home has been swatted.
“What would it take for there to be some accountability here?” Crowder said. “I am not turning this into a race issue- you did [the family and the Black activist community] when you hosted a public press conference and condemned a father whose greatest sin was being a White guy saying he would pray for you.”
