Al Franken Once Pitched a Joke for SNL. About Raping an Unconscious Lesley Stahl...
With today's Al Franken bombshell (see Al Franken Accused of Kissing and Groping Without Consent. It Gets Worse... and Al Franken Issues Apology for Groping an Unconscious Woman. It's a Doozy), I just want to caution people from going too far from taking past jokes out of context. Let leftists be the puritanical scolds who attack Judicial candidates over bacon jokes. However, this Variety article from 2008 brings up a very curious joke from a sketch that was rejected by SNL.
Stop me if you've heard this one before.
The StarTribune reports that the GOP is distributing a 1995 New York magazine profile of “Saturday Night Live,” where “Franken is described among a group of show writers sounding out a possible parody of Andy Rooney centered on a sedative pill bottle found in the “60 Minutes” essayist’s desk.“The article quotes Franken putting an edgy twist on the discussion, saying in a Rooney voice: “And ‘I give the pills to Lesley Stahl. Then when Lesley’s passed out, I take her to the closet and rape her.’ Or ‘That’s why you never see Lesley until February.’ Or, ‘When she passes out I put her in various positions and take pictures of her.””
Really? When she passes out, you put her in various positions and take pictures of her? It may have been funny in context in 1995. However, ten years later?
Stay tuned, Crowderheads. Because there's already rumors of at least one other woman stepping forward.
We like comedy around here. Steven has made plenty of jokes about Harvey Weinstein. In fact, for Halloween, he dressed as Weinstein. Not Gay Jared was the potted plant. So we're all about what's edgy.
But Franken's past jokes about raping Leslie Stahl, after it comes out he groped an unconscious woman, sound less like jokes, more like wishful thinking. Allegedly.
