Coen Brothers: Diversity Isn't What's Important
Because leftists have to politicize all of the things all of the time, being on a press junket is less about the movie and more about having the filmmakers justify a worldview. So it's no surprise that's exactly what the Daily Beast did when interviewing the Coen Brothers about Hail, Caesar!
What is surprising? Their answer.
“I don’t understand the question. No—I understand that you’re asking the question, I don’t understand where the question comes from.“Not why people want more diversity—why they would single out a particular movie and say, ‘Why aren’t there black or Chinese or Martians in this movie? What’s going on?’ That’s the question I don’t understand. The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me.”
As filmmakers, is it important or not important to consciously factor in concerns like diversity, I asked.
“Not in the least!” Ethan [Coen] answered. “It’s important to tell the story you’re telling in the right way, which might involve black people or people of whatever heritage or ethnicity—or it might not.”
What's funny here is that the star of "Hail, Caesar!," and many other Coen Brother films, is George Clooney...who had one of the douchiest responses to #OscarsSoWhite.
Clooney believes in social justice quotas for all, so long as he gets to keep making those leading man dollar-bills y'all. Aaaaaaand this is precisely where leftism starts to unravel itself. Sure, the Coen brothers believe film-making should be performance-based. The right person for the job regardless of color or creed. Of course! Of course! But do they say the same about college acceptance? What about other non-Hollywood employment?
This right here is an all-or-nothing game. You either believe in equal opportunity for all and personal freedom thereafter, or you believe in guaranteed outcomes for all to ensure equality. You can't believe the latter while declaring your industry exempt. This is not Obamacare. You are not a Michigan union.
Hopefully the Coen brothers have seen the light. Because the left is self-destructing, and I'd hate to see their talent go to waste. Learn more about the cannibalistic left below.
