Female Weightlifters Told to Keep Quiet About Biological Male Competing Against Them at Tokyo Games
Laurel Hubbard is an Olympic female weightlifter from New Zealand. She used to be an Olympic male weightlifter from New Zealand going by the name "Gavin." But in 2012, Gavin became Laurel and Laurel started competing against the girls. You know, because she was one now. Also, according to Wikipedia, her father's name is Dick. That has nothing to do with this story. I'm just a child.
Laurel is set to compete in the upcoming Tokyo Games after the Olympic committee modified the qualifying requirements. Some feel it is unfair for Laurel, who used to be a biological male, to compete against female weightlifters who have always been biological females. If you are among those not enamored by Laurel's beauty and bravery, you best keep it to yourself. According to ex-weightlifter Tracey Lambrechs, the gals are being told to dummy up about it.
"We're all about equality for women in sport but right now that equality is being taken away from us.
"I've had female weightlifters come up to me and say, 'What do we do? This isn't fair, what do we do?' Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do because every time we voice it we get told to be quiet."
Laurel is of course used to such — *sigh* — transphobic attacks. Here Lauren is in 2017 just asking to be treated with respect.

You would think the female athletes could accuse the Olympic committee, or whoever is telling them to only speak when spoken to, of mansplaining to them. They could have if this was 2012 and Laurel was still a man. But Laurel is a woman now. What was once feminism is now transphobia. Back in the bygone era of less than a decade ago, women would be in their legal right to claim "Gavin Hubbard" would have an unfair advantage. In 2021, the Olympic committee is in their moral, legal, and ethical right to tell female bodybuilders to calm their t*ts about it. Progress!
